New figures have revealed that fly-tipping has again increased in Hammersmith and Fulham. In 2016/17 there were nearly 15,000 incidents of fly-tipping across our borough. H&F is now the fourth worst performing local authority in the country for fly-tipping.
You deserve better. Local Conservatives are committed to cleaning up our streets and open spaces. Littering is a blight on our community and we have put together a plan to tackle this problem. We will:
Protect at least weekly bin collection for all streets. For the worst affected streets, we will increase collections to twice a week.
Remove all fly-tipping within 24 hours of it being reported.
Reintroduce weekly inspections of waste contractors to improve street cleaning standards.
Reverse the cuts in the number of street bins and work with residents to introduce new bins on their streets.
Take stronger action against fly-tippers.
Labour has failed to take street cleanliness and rubbish collection seriously. They claim that the streets have never been cleaner but local residents disagree.
Labour are not using the powers they have. The Government allows a maximum Fixed Penalty Notice of £400 for fly-tipping but Labour have set a lower penalty of £200. Even worse, the Council is failing to issue fines. In 2016/17 the number of Fixed Penalty fines paid to the Council for fly-tipping was zero.
It is a basic duty of the Council to ensure that residents have their bins emptied regularly and their streets are clean, yet Labour can’t even get this right.
